TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) arrived in Taiwan on Thrusday afternoon (Jan. 29), just one day after the Ministry of Economic Affairs approved the company's application to invest NT$3.3 billion (around US$105.77 million) for a new Taipei office, as the city government seeks to finalize an agreement for the artificial intelligence chip giant's regional headquarters.
Huang landed at Taipei Songshan Airport (台北松山機場) at 1:11 p.m. local time after traveling from Shenzhen, China. His private jet reportedly routed through Hong Kong to comply with cross-strait air transport agreements that prohibit direct flights between mainland China and Taiwan. The specific terms of any potential agreement with the Taipei City Government have not been disclosed.
The Taiwan visit follows Huang's appearance in Beijing, where he attended the "2026 NVIDIA Beijing New Year Party" with the company's local team, according to Chinese media reports. He reportedly arrived in China's capital on Sunday to begin his 2026 visit to the country, also celebrating the Lunar New Year with the local team.
The approved investment funds will raise the capital of Nvidia Iconic Taiwan Co (台灣輝達經典), the company's Taiwan subsidiary, for the development of a new office in Beitou Shilin Technology Park (北投士林科技園區), according to the ministry's Department of Investment Review (投資審議司). The Taipei City Government on Monday approved a plan to combine two land parcels, designated T17 and T18, by eliminating a 15-meter-wide road between them to provide NVIDIA with a larger development area.
The Taipei City Government hopes to sign an agreement with Nvidia, witnessed by Huang during his stay, though Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) has said the itinerary remains unfinalized. City officials have prepared at least two proposals to discuss with the company, though their contents have not been made public. ◼
