TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei's major hotels are rolling out luxurious Lunar New Year feasts ahead of the holiday on Tuesday (Feb. 17), offering diverse festive dishes for family reunion dinners. Taiwanese households prepare for the annual togetherness, with cuisines remaining in the spotlight as the holiday approaches. Multiple five-star properties across the city have unveiled takeout sets and dine-in options featuring traditional and regional specialties.
Regent Taipei (台北晶華酒店) plans to offer a five-star reunion-dinner theme, introducing 11 takeout sets featuring Cantonese, Shanghainese, Sichuan (四川), Taiwanese, and Japanese hot pot cuisines. The hotel has crafted a standout dish this year: a scallop-and-preserved-meat rice cake symbolizing prosperity. Chefs enhance its aroma by stir-frying mushrooms, dried shrimp, and glutinous rice before steaming the dish with preserved meat and scallops. The hotel also offers a simmered beef trio with beef tendon, tripe, and shank.
Taipei Marriott Hotel (台北萬豪酒店) offers a four-person set featuring premium fish maw and abalone, and Buddha Jumps Over the Wall (佛跳牆), a traditional Fujian dish renowned for its rich flavors and rare ingredients. Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei (台北福華酒店) provides two options: a luxury set and a vegetarian set. These sets emphasize health and wellness, layering flavors with a variety of vegetables and mushrooms.
Le Méridien Taipei (台北寒舍艾美酒店) offers nine Cantonese dishes under the executive chef's leadership, catering to small family gatherings seeking traditional yet intimate dining experiences. Eslite Hotel's (誠品行旅) 'Eslite Garden' (聚聚樓) brings a six-person takeout set combining Jiangsu (江蘇), Zhejiang (浙江), Cantonese, and Sichuan flavors for larger family reunions. Taipei's culinary scene embraces the festive spirit, with these offerings highlighting the rich gastronomic diversity for the Lunar New Year. ◼
