TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) took to Facebook on Monday (Feb. 9) to congratulate Takaichi on her landmark achievement, expressing hope for deepening mutual trust and friendship between Taiwan and Japan. Foreign Minister Lin Chiang-lung (林佳龍) also extended congratulations on behalf of the government, instructing Taiwan's representative office in Japan to convey well-wishes to Takaichi and the newly elected members of the Japan-Taiwan Parliamentary League.

In a historic victory, Japan's Liberal Democratic Party (自由民主党) led by Takaichi Sanae (高市早苗) secured 316 seats in the House of Representatives election on Sunday, surpassing the two-thirds majority threshold and setting a post-war record for a single party. This decisive win marks a significant shift in Japan's political landscape and could have far-reaching implications for East Asia.

During a live interview on the program "History Show" (歷史易起SHOW), Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) commented on Takaichi's comprehensive victory, noting the potential impact on the East Asian situation. Cheng hopes for a move toward reconciliation in the region, referencing Takaichi's past statement, and its evolving context, "Japan has an issue, Taiwan has an issue" (日本有事,台灣有事).

Taiwan's representative to Japan, Lee I-yang (李逸洋), highlighted on Facebook Takaichi's emphasis on economic growth and national strength during her campaign, which garnered widespread support. Lee announced the establishment of a "Growth Strategy Headquarters" focusing on 17 strategic investment areas.

Yaita Akio (矢板明夫), CEO of the Indo-Pacific Strategy Institute, believes Takaichi's victory signals the dawn of the "Takaichi Sanae era" in Asia, positioning Japan as a new key power under her leadership with a strong focus on Taiwan. Yaita attributes Takaichi's popularity to her ability to reassure the Japanese, her alignment with Abe's policies, and her strong sense of accomplishment.
