TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's shooting team secured a silver medal in the women's 25-meter pistol event at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship in New Delhi, India, on Monday (Feb. 9). The team of Chen Yu-ju (陳俞如), Tien Chia-chen (田家榛), and Wu Chia-ying (吳佳穎) achieved a total score of 1,735 points. The medal marks a strong performance for Taiwan at the continental championship, which commenced on Sunday (Feb. 2).
In the individual finals, Tien Chia-chen (田家榛) led Taiwan with a 5th-place finish after excelling in the rapid-fire rounds with 295 points, the highest score in the event. Chen Yu-ju (陳俞如) ranked 5th after scoring 291 points in the first three slow-fire rounds. Teammate Cheng Yen-ching (鄭晏晴) finished 5th in the qualification round but could not advance to the finals due to RPO (Ranking and Participation by Observation) regulations, which limit roster participation.
Championship rules allow only three participants per country in the women's 25-meter pistol event, with Taiwan represented by Chen, Tien, and Wu Chia-ying (吳佳穎). In the team event, Chen, Tien, and Wu scored 580, 579, and 576 points, respectively, securing the silver medal. Head coach Kuo Meng-hsi (郭孟熙) told the Central News Agency (CNA, 中央社) that although Cheng could not be counted due to her RPO status, the experience provided invaluable practical training and deserved positive encouragement. ◼
