TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Industrial Technology Research Institute (工研院) has announced a strategic collaboration with SAES to launch a pilot production line for high-vacuum packaging getter technology. This initiative, revealed on Monday (Feb. 9), aims to enhance sensor sensitivity and lifespan, addressing a critical industry challenge in Taiwan.
Chang Pei-jen (張培仁), president of ITRI, emphasized the significance of this technology. He stated that it offers a one-stop process integrating "lid structure, optical anti-reflective coating, and wafer bonding," thus resolving Taiwan's reliance on overseas foundries.
ITRI highlighted the role of getter technology in maintaining ultra-high vacuum within component cavities. This advancement is crucial for improving the stability and lifespan of microcomponents, serving as a core element for the performance of infrared and inertial components.
Chang further underscored the transformative potential of this technology. He noted that it will enable Taiwan's semiconductor sensor industry to achieve complete autonomy from chip design to high-vacuum packaging, reducing the time from research and development to mass production and lowering overall costs.
