TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) led a joint inspection on Monday (Feb. 9), marking the launch of a 15-day enhanced safety project for significant holidays. This initiative aims to ensure public safety during the Lunar New Year festivities. Chiang expressed gratitude to police, firefighters, and city government teams for their dedication, especially following the Taipei Metro arson incident.
Chiang personally led the team to Cashbox Partyworld (錢櫃) Zhongxiao branch for inspections, ensuring public safety during the holiday season. Consumers at the venue enthusiastically greeted him, shouting, "The mayor is here," and requested photos. Police Chief Lin Yen-tien (林炎田) accompanied Chiang to inspect the functionality of fire equipment.
Chiang thanked citizens for their cooperation during inspections and extended early New Year wishes for peace and prosperity. He emphasized the city's commitment to supporting law enforcement and taking a firm stance against illegal activities threatening public safety. The city government initiated the project, reminding relevant units to "remain vigilant and stay at their posts."
During the Lunar New Year, tourist attractions and transportation hubs experience increased crowds and traffic. Chiang urged his colleagues to stay alert, maintain their posts, and adopt a proactive approach, embodying the spirit of "better safe than sorry." Daan Precinct Commissioner Liu Chuan-yuan (劉全原) reported the project's timeframe, running from Feb. 9 at 10 p.m. to Feb. 23 at midnight, focusing on public safety, smooth traffic, and citizen reassurance.
