TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Weather expert Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) predicted that weather during Taiwan's Peace Memorial Day holiday (Feb. 27 - 29) is expected to turn wetter and cooler, as multiple frontal systems affect the island. He stated that a cold front will move southward beginning Thursday (Feb. 27), bringing localized rain and cooler temperatures, particularly to central and northern Taiwan.
Rainfall is expected to expand slightly southward on Friday (Feb. 27), the first day of the long weekend, with cool and damp conditions persisting. Wu said forecast models indicate that rainfall may gradually shift northward on Saturday (Feb. 28), with localized showers continuing in central and northern Taiwan. A brief break in precipitation is possible from Saturday afternoon into the first half of Sunday (March 1), when temperatures may temporarily rebound.
However, Wu warned that another frontal system is expected to arrive from Sunday afternoon, bringing renewed rainfall to northern and eastern Taiwan and causing temperatures to drop again. Rain is forecast to spread island-wide by Monday (March 2), followed by gradually improving conditions early next week.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) also cautioned that the long weekend will be influenced by a combination of frontal systems and a cloud-and-rain belt from southern China. Northern and eastern regions are expected to see more pronounced impacts. The CWA advised travelers and those planning outdoor activities to monitor updated forecasts and prepare rain gear.
