TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan International Orchid Show and Floral Technology Exhibition (台灣國際蘭展暨花卉科技展) has drawn significant crowds since opening on Feb. 27 at the Ministry of Agriculture's Floral Innovation Park (農業部花卉創新園區), a major agricultural facility in Tainan. The exhibition, running until Monday (March 16), showcases Taiwan's floral industry's competitive edge by integrating traditional orchid aesthetics with advanced technology, attracting buyers and diplomats from around the world.

President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) opened the exhibition on Feb. 26, marking the first time the event adopted a "dual-format exhibition" model. The approach combines traditional orchid aesthetics with forward-looking technological applications, including naked-eye 3D, immersive imagery, and interactive AI, to showcase the competitiveness and development potential of Taiwan's floriculture industry. The new format aims to position Taiwan as a global leader in both orchid cultivation and floral technology innovation.

The exhibition emphasizes international procurement and exchange, with organizers establishing an international business negotiation area and an export flower display zone. The zones feature Taiwan's representative flower varieties, including Moth orchids (蝴蝶蘭), Vanda orchids (萬代蘭), and Cattleya orchids (嘉德麗雅蘭), which are among the country's most prized horticultural exports. These varieties have helped Taiwan secure a dominant position in global orchid markets.

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) highlighted Taiwan's pivotal role in the global orchid industry, noting that one in every six orchids worldwide comes from Tainan. He stated, "The Taiwan International Orchid Show and Floral Technology Exhibition ranks among the world's top three orchid exhibitions, attracting nearly 70% new international buyers and more than 20 foreign envoys this year." Taiwanese orchids have secured their position in the global market due to their superior quality and competitive pricing.

The Tainan City Government partnered with industry players to expand orchid marketing in response to changes in U.S. tariff policies. Officials are focusing on diversifying marketing channels and enhancing international market presence to support industry stability and elevate Tainan orchids' visibility globally. Organizers invited over 30 countries from Europe, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia to participate in this year's exhibition, expanding new channels and showcasing Taiwan's soft power. ◼
