TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The 2026 Smart City Summit & Expo (2026智慧城市展) in Taipei entered its second day on Wednesday (March 18), with exhibitors highlighting how artificial intelligence, digital twin technology, and smart energy systems are being applied to reshape urban infrastructure and sustainability.

Among the key highlights, Chunghwa Telecom (中華電信) showcased its “Smart Railway Digital Twin Technology,” which leverages 5G low-latency transmission and AI-driven analytics. The system replicates driver display units (DDU), fault diagnostics, and operational data in real time, helping improve dispatch efficiency and coordination across maintenance teams. By integrating edge, network, and cloud systems, the platform reflects Taiwan’s growing capabilities in smart transportation development.

Smart parking solutions were also in focus at ALTOB (歐特儀), which received the “2026 System Integration Export Award” for its AI-based management platform and international deployment model. Its Smart Parking SaaS platform, verified for use in Japan, enables real-time parking management, while its edge AI dual-lens payment system allows drivers to complete transactions on-site.

Taiwan Secom Co., Ltd. (中興保全科技) presented developments in autonomous security and urban management, ranging from widely adopted smart parking systems to autonomous inspection drones capable of conducting three-dimensional patrols. The company said its smart parking network in Taipei has reached an 80% penetration rate, using geomagnetic sensing and image recognition to optimize parking and reduce emissions.

Meanwhile, MiTAC Information Technology Corp. (神通資訊科技) focused on AI-driven governance under the theme “AI Empowerment, Sustainable Transformation.” Its exhibit highlighted the integration of software and hardware systems, including applications in hydrogen energy and microgrids, aimed at improving operational efficiency and enabling real-time smart city management.

In the energy sector, the “Virtual Power Plant Theme Pavilion,” a joint exhibition by e-Formula (億鴻系統科技), Ancillarypower (安瑟樂威), and Tatung Forever Energy (TFE, 大同智能), presented a case-based demonstration of virtual power plant applications. The exhibit featured the Tainan Tree Valley Park project, described as Taiwan’s first 24/7 carbon-free electricity hub, illustrating how distributed energy resources can be integrated to enhance grid resilience and support sustainability goals.

International participation also expanded this year, with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Japanese manufacturers joining the expo for the first time. They presented the Tokyo Digital Twin Project, launched in fiscal year 2020, which integrates cyberspace and physical infrastructure to simulate urban systems. The initiative aims to address challenges such as disaster response and urban planning, with the goal of improving the overall quality of life.
