TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A weak front will pass through Taiwan on Wednesday (March 25), bringing brief showers and cooler temperatures to northern and eastern regions, WeatherRisk (天氣風險) forecasted. The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), Taiwan's national weather agency, forecasted a temporary increase in the northeast monsoon. The monsoon will affect northern coastal areas, eastern regions, and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島) with scattered showers.
The CWA forecasted a high chance of rain in windward areas, while central and southern regions will remain mostly cloudy to clear. CWA forecaster Hsieh Pei-yun (謝佩芸) warned of another front and monsoon surge on Friday, increasing rain chances in the north and east. The northeast monsoon will weaken starting Sunday (March 29), allowing temperatures to rise across Taiwan.
TVBS weather consultant Cheng Ming-dean (鄭明典) noted that fog or low clouds could reduce visibility from Taichung northward, including Yunlin to Tainan. Visibility may also be affected on the outlying islands of Kinmen (金門) and Matsu (馬祖), located near China's coast. Cheng urged caution as the weather remains cool in the mornings and evenings. Residents should prepare for fluctuating weather patterns and continue to conserve water resources amid these changes.
Hsieh elaborated that the weak front's passage, combined with the strengthening northeast monsoon, will bring scattered rains to Taipei and New Taipei. Yilan and Hualien will experience brief showers as well. The weather agency advised residents to monitor conditions as multiple weather systems affect the island, with another front expected Friday. ◼
