TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) announced Wednesday (March 25) that he has compiled evidence against two former foundation executives. Ma said he will submit the evidence for judicial investigation, citing suspicions over their frequent visits to China and interactions with Taiwanese businesspeople. The Ma Ying-jeou Foundation (馬英九文教基金會) appointed Tai Hsia-ling (戴遐齡), a professor at the University of Taipei (台北市立大學), as its new CEO on March 16.
The foundation clarified that former CEOs Hsiao Hsu-tsen (蕭旭岑) and Wang Kuang-tzu (王光慈) completed their departures by the end of February, ending their official roles. The foundation stated their future actions and statements will not represent the organization or Ma's stance on any matter. Ma expressed sadness over the situation during an interview with the United Daily News (聯合報), a major Taiwanese newspaper, in a news story released on Wednesday.
In response to the accusations, Hsiao asserted his innocence, claiming Ma has "forgotten" many things. Hsiao emphasized that he had reported all matters to Ma and insisted all his actions at the foundation had Ma's approval. He stated that Ma did not listen to his explanations and expressed regret over individuals exploiting Ma's situation.
Hsiao dismissed Ma's accusations as "impossible" and questioned the motives of those behind the allegations against him. He urged against allowing the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Taiwan's ruling party, to divert attention from the nuclear power issue through this controversy. Hsiao also questioned new CEO Tai's understanding of Ma's health and ridiculed the financial discipline accusations leveled against him by the foundation.
