TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese pop superstar Jay Chou (周杰倫) unveiled his highly anticipated album "Children of the Sun" (太陽之子) at a packed Taipei press conference on Tuesday (March 24). The release marks Chou's first studio album in several years, drawing hundreds of devoted fans eager to witness the unveiling. The 46-year-old singer-songwriter remains one of the most influential and commercially successful musical artists across Asia.
The title track's music video premiered at the event after more than two years and three months of production. With costs approaching NT$100 million (around US$3.14 million), the project sets a new record for music video production expenses in the Chinese-language music industry. New Zealand's Wētā Workshop, known for their screen work on "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, handled the video's artistic design.
Chou also debuted the music video for "Gold Rush Town" (淘金小鎮) during the press conference, with fans worldwide watching live via his official YouTube channel. The "Children of the Sun" video pays tribute to iconic artworks, including Gustav Klimt's "Der Kuss," Edward Hopper's "Nighthawks," and Vincent van Gogh's "Self-portrait with bandaged ear and pipe." The artistic references highlight Chou's continued fusion of visual art with music.
Before the event, Chou engaged fans on Instagram, asking them to share their favorite songs from the new album. Fellow artists including Mayday vocalist Ashin (阿信) and Singaporean singer JJ Lin (林俊傑) commented on the post.
