TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The "French Festival in Kaohsiung" (法國生活節在高雄) will transform the Weiwuying National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts and Metropolitan Park from May 22-24. The Kaohsiung City Government will host the three-day event with the Bureau Français de Taipei (法國在台協會). The festival, themed "Paris Champs-Élysées: Symphony Night," aims to immerse visitors in French culture through music, film, and art in southern Taiwan.
Chang Yen-ching (張硯卿), director of the Kaohsiung City Government's Department of Administrative and International Affairs (高雄市政府行政暨國際處), highlighted the festival's unique offerings. The Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France (法國廣播交響樂團) will perform at the festival for the first time, marking a significant cultural milestone for the event. Organizers will also screen classic French films to enhance the cultural experience for attendees at the outdoor venue.
Organizers will transform the venue into an artistic French village, connecting cultural lectures with artistic activities throughout the three-day festival event. The expanded "French Brand Market" will feature diverse stalls offering pastries, French cuisine, creative crafts, and lifestyle goods from French and local vendors. The market expansion promises a rich selection of French cultural and culinary offerings for festival attendees visiting the Weiwuying venue in southern Taiwan.
Vendor registration for the French Brand Market closes at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday (April 6), according to the Kaohsiung City Government announcement. Interested vendors can find registration details and application forms on the official website of the Department of Administrative and International Affairs. The festival will blend French elegance with Taiwanese hospitality, offering a unique cross-cultural experience in Kaohsiung, Taiwan's second-largest city and major southern port. ◼
