TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese racer Tiger Wu (吳志祥) secured the Pro-Am category title at the opening race of the Porsche Carrera Cup Japan (PCCJ) on Sunday (March 29) at the Suzuka Circuit (鈴鹿賽道), marking a significant achievement in Japan's prestigious one-make championship. The championship, established in 2001, features the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, driven by all to ensure fairness.

The Republic of China national anthem was played as the Chinese Taipei Olympic flag was raised during the award ceremony, moving Taiwanese fans, organizers said. The PCCJ series, part of a seven-race schedule in 2026, often supports major events like the SUPER GT and F1 Japanese Grand Prix, providing significant media exposure for drivers.

Tiger Wu, who turns 60 on Sept. 9, brings a unique flair to racing with his "Shimajiro" (巧虎) themed car and suit, offering a striking contrast on the track. PCCJ is renowned as a launching pad for emerging talent, with alumni advancing to top series like the WEC Hypercar, SUPER GT 300/500 class, and Super Formula, officials said.

Wu's victory in Japan marks a career milestone, highlighting his skill and strategy in a competitive field, officials said. Fans and aspiring racers will closely watch the PCCJ season to see how Wu and others perform in upcoming races, eager for the series' continuation. ◼
