TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan swelters under heat as temperatures rise above 32 degrees Celsius due to southwesterly winds, the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported Monday. Meteorologist Wu Der-romg (吳德榮) said the weather feels like summer, with highs potentially reaching 35 degrees Celsius, marking an unusually warm March day.
A weather front is expected to approach Taiwan on Tuesday, cooling the north and bringing short showers or thunderstorms, the CWA reported. Wu predicted rainfall in two phases, beginning at noon and increasing chances of localized rain in the north and northeast. This front will pass by Wednesday, when the northeast monsoon strengthens, boosting rain chances nationwide.
The Qingming Festival weekend is expected to face another front affecting central and northern Taiwan and the northeast, bringing short showers or thunderstorms and potential heavy rain, Wu said. He predicts the weather will improve briefly on Thursday and Friday, with daytime temperatures returning to summer levels.
Heavy fog in Kinmen disrupted sea and air traffic on Monday, leading to the suspension of the Shuitou (水頭) to Xiamen (廈門) ferry route starting at 7:30 a.m., the Kinmen County Harbor Bureau announced. Fog also forced one flight cancellation and at least five delays, affecting travelers' plans. Authorities advised travelers to check the latest schedules before embarking.
