TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) issued a heavy rain advisory on Thursday (April 30) as a front and the northeast monsoon bring significant rainfall to Taiwan. The advisory, released at 10:20 a.m., highlighted the risk of thunderstorms and strong gusts in Tainan City, with flooding concerns in low-lying areas.
Temperatures in northern Taiwan dropped significantly, with Taipei City expecting a high of 21 degrees Celsius, a 10-degree decrease from Wednesday. The CWA warned residents to brace for temperature fluctuations and noted that mountain areas will experience more pronounced rainfall. Some regions in central and northern Taiwan may also see heavy rain.
The northeast monsoon will continue to affect the weather on Friday (May 1), keeping conditions cool in central and northern Taiwan, as well as in Yilan and Hualien. However, temperatures will rise during the day as the monsoon weakens, leading to mostly cloudy to sunny weather. Eastern and southeastern Taiwan, along with the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島), may experience scattered showers, with sporadic afternoon showers in southern mountain areas.
Daytime weather will stabilize from Friday to Sunday (May 3), and temperatures will rise across the island. Northern Taiwan and Yilan could see temperatures increase by 8 to 9 degrees compared to earlier in the week. However, afternoon showers remain possible in mountainous regions, and scattered rain may occur on the windward side of eastern Taiwan.
