TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A weather front swept through Taiwan on Wednesday (April 29), bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures and heavy rainfall across the island, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署). Northern, central, and mountainous regions will see brief heavy rain as temperatures dip to 22 to 31 degrees.
CWA meteorologist Huang En-hung (黃恩鴻) reported that convective cloud systems approached Taiwan on Wednesday afternoon, causing brief showers across the island. Huang predicted that the front would continue to affect Taiwan on Thursday (April 30), with heavy rain in the north and central regions and brief showers elsewhere. Rainfall is expected to gradually decrease by Thursday evening.
The weather will stabilize as moisture decreases starting Friday (May 1), leading to mostly cloudy to sunny skies with temperatures rising above 30 degrees Celsius. However, Hualien and Taitung may experience brief showers. The afternoon Greater Taipei, Yilan, and mountainous areas may see thunderstorms on Saturday (May 2) and Sunday (May 3).
WeatherRisk (天氣風險) noted that the northeast monsoon will weaken on Friday (May 1) and Saturday (May 2), allowing temperatures to rise and making daytime warm to hot while mornings and evenings remain cooler. They stated that only eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島) may experience brief isolated showers, and afternoon thunderstorms could occur in mountainous areas.
