TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) confirmed on Tuesday (Sept. 19) that it suspended Hsinchu Mayor Kao Hung-an's party rights temporarily, precluding her from participating in party affairs, suggesting policies, and running for party positions.

In response to the party's decision, Mayor Kao said she had voluntarily resigned from all party positions two weeks ago, and this action would not impact her work or life as the TPP's committee is wrapping up its procedure.

Mayor Kao is accused of embezzling funds intended for assistants during her term as a legislator. She was recently indicted under the country's "Anti-Corruption Act."

Regarding the party's move, TPP spokesperson Li Ting-li stated the party and its Chairman, Ko Wen-je, will not compromise their standards regarding clean government.
