TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold air mass from the mainland has swept into Taiwan, bringing chilly weather to the north and northeast regions on Wednesday (Nov. 27), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署). While most areas enjoy clear and stable conditions, Hualien and Taitung face scattered showers.

Temperatures in the north and Yilan-Hualien range from 19 to 20 degrees Celsius, while other regions experience highs of 22 to 25 degrees. Nighttime lows will dip to 13 to 15 degrees in the central and northern regions, Yilan, and Hualien, with the south slightly warmer at 15 to 17 degrees.

The cold spell, described by a weather forecasting Facebook page, as the first of the winter, is expected to last until the weekend, spanning at least three to four days. This dry cold front, combined with significant radiative cooling, poses a risk of colds due to large temperature differences between day and night.

Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) predicts that from Thursday to next Sunday morning, some lowland areas may see temperatures drop below 10 degrees. Starting Sunday afternoon, the cold air mass will weaken, leading to increased moisture and a higher chance of brief showers in the east, while the west remains clear and stable.

As temperatures gradually rise from Saturday (Nov. 30), residents should prepare for fluctuating weather conditions and stay informed about potential rain in the eastern regions.
