TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Hsiao Bi-khim, the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) vice-presidential candidate, expressed her opposition to war as a solution to cross-strait issues on Thursday (Nov. 23).

Speaking at an international media conference, she expressed support for the four pillars of peace outlined by presidential candidate Lai Ching-te, which include enhancing Taiwan's deterrence, ensuring economic security, forming global democratic partnerships, and fostering stable cross-strait relations.

The Chinese Communist Party has sanctioned Hsiao twice, labeling her a staunch advocate for Taiwanese independence. First blacklisted in August last year, she faced renewed sanctions in April. Hsiao responded by noting that she, along with other global democracy and human rights advocates, are targets of the CCP.

Despite these challenges, Hsiao remains dedicated to preserving Taiwan's democracy and is open to cross-strait dialogue. She emphasized the need to maintain the status quo and garner international support for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
