TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The 22nd annual Taiwan International Science Fair opened Monday (Jan. 29) at the National Taiwan Science Education Center, with 630 teachers and students from 27 countries presenting 211 top projects.

Beyond being a competition, the fair emphasizes international exchange and sharing. According to Center Director Liu Huo-chin, organizers extended the event duration from six to nine days this year to allow foreign participants to adjust to the time difference and appreciate Taiwan's beautiful scenery.

A welcome party and cultural tour were held in advance to foster more significant interaction among participants. Other planned activities include award-winning expert talks, teacher and student exchange workshops, a science tour, and a cultural night.

Minister of Education Pan Wen-chung attended the opening ceremony and praised the outstanding performance of Taiwan's young scientists at world-class science fairs, demonstrating the strength of the country's secondary school science education and foundational scientific research.

This year's science fair saw a record number of participating nations, with an increase of six countries, 28 students, and 16 projects compared to last year. This highlights the event's growing influence as one of Asia's top science fairs.

Pan added that educating students to view the world globally is a mission that the Ministry of Education hopes to fulfill through the Taiwan International Science Fair. The ministry hopes that all domestic and foreign teachers and students will take this opportunity to learn and improve themselves for the future.
