NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih expressed on Monday (Jan. 29), that regardless of who leads the Kuomintang (KMT), it is crucial to unite the party and propose laws that resonate with the public.

Hou's comment came in response to KMT legislator Lai Shyh-bao's withdrawal from the election for the KMT caucus whip.

Asked about the KMT legislative speaker and deputy speaker candidates visiting the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) caucus, Hou responded that communication between parties can take many forms, and reaching a consensus focused on Taiwan's future and public welfare is key.

With the media's further questioning about Lai's withdrawal from the KMT caucus election for the upcoming session and the possibility of legislator Fu Kun-chi replacing him, Hou reiterated that unity within the KMT and presenting laws that resonate with the public is paramount for changing Taiwan's future.

After the presidential election, Hou resumed mayoral duties and launched his mayor's action governance forum at the Yonghe District of New Taipei City.

As he arrived, several local leaders gathered at the Yonghe District Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, chanting slogans of encouragement.

Hou stated his plans to continue progress on multiple projects, including sewage systems, parking facilities, and transit networks in Yonghe.

Due to the KMT winning more seats in the legislature this year, he believes more budget can be obtained for these projects.
