TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) took office on Thursday (May 23), starting his first day with a meeting on Taiwan's economic situation. The meeting, attended by Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) and New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜), underscored the new administration's commitment to addressing economic challenges.

The event also drew foreign representatives, including Laura Rosenberger, chair of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), and AIT Taipei Office Director Sandra Oudkirk. They arrived at the Executive Yuan around 8:10 a.m., signaling strong U.S. interest in Taiwan's new government and economic policies.

Premier Cho's inaugural Executive Yuan meeting concentrated on the economic landscape, with reports from the National Development Council (NDC) on the overall economic situation and from the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) on the achievements of the generative AI dialogue engine TAIDE.

Cho's Cabinet has pledged to make significant economic improvements within the first 100 days, highlighting the urgency and importance of economic issues in his administration's agenda.

The focus on generative AI and the broader economic situation suggests a forward-looking strategy aimed at innovation and growth. The coming months will reveal the impact of these initial efforts on Taiwan's economic trajectory.
