BRATISLAVA (TVBS News) — In a significant diplomatic engagement, Slovakia has expressed its keen interest in Taiwan's economic, trade, and technological advancements.

Tomáš Valášek, the Vice-Chairman of the Slovak Foreign Affairs Committee, highlighted the allure of Taiwan's sectors for Slovakia. This comes as Taiwan's new President and Vice President step into office, receiving congratulations and anticipations of cooperation from Ivan Štefanec, Vice-Chairman of the European Parliament-Taiwan Friendship Group.

Bilateral Relations Strengthen

Slovakia's mainstream media, Pravda, covered the inauguration of Taiwan's new leaders and interviewed Valášek, who attended the ceremony. Štefanec noted the significant growth in economic, technological, and cultural cooperation between Taiwan and Slovakia over recent years. He emphasized Slovakia's longstanding value on its friendly relations with Taiwan, suggesting a deepening of ties.

Facing Challenges Together

Štefanec criticized China's response to President Lai Ching-te's inauguration speech, calling it a deviation from the facts. He pointed out that European countries are increasingly aware of the threats posed by China and are looking to collaborate with like-minded nations, including Taiwan, to safeguard European democratic systems.

On May 21, David Lee, the Representative to Slovakia, attended a tea party hosted by the Slovak-Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the new Taiwanese leadership. Lee shared the new government's policy goals, emphasizing Taiwan's commitment to strengthening democracy, economic, and technological development globally. He expressed hope for Slovakia's continued support for Taiwan.

This engagement underscores a mutual interest in bolstering democratic values and economic growth, setting a positive tone for future collaborations between Taiwan and Slovakia.
