TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kate Liu (劉珒), who won third place at the International Chopin Piano Competition (蕭邦鋼琴大賽) at age 21, will perform her debut solo recital in Taiwan on Sept. 8 at the National Concert Hall (國家音樂廳) in Taipei.
Liu plans to showcase her award-winning repertoire, including Chopin's Two Nocturnes, Op. 37, Four Mazurkas, Op. 30, Ballade No.2 in F Major, Op.38, and Ballade No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 23.
Liu, born in Singapore and raised in the U.S. from age 8, graduated from The Curtis Institute of Music (柯蒂斯音樂院) and earned her master's and artist diploma from The Juilliard School (茱莉亞音樂學院). In 2015, she became the first female Chinese pianist to win the Chopin competition and also secured two other awards.
In addition to her Chopin competition accolades, Liu has triumphed at the Asia-Pacific International Chopin Competition and the New York International Piano Competition.
