TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Sharpshooter Lee Meng-yuan (李孟遠) has climbed to the top of the world rankings, according to the latest update from the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) on Monday (Sept. 23), marking a historic achievement for Taiwan

Lee secured Taiwan's first Olympic shooting medal by winning bronze in the men's trap at the Paris Olympics earlier this year.

In related news, Lee told the media that he expected his ranking to improve after the Olympics, but did not anticipate reaching number one.

Lee won gold at the Asian Championships and finished fifth in the World Cup in Baku, accumulating significant points. These achievements, combined with his Olympic bronze, propelled him past the Olympic gold and silver medalists, Vincent Hancock and Conner Prince of the U.S.

Despite surpassing his idol Hancock, Lee remains humble. He believes there is still a gap between his skills and those of his idol. "I might have become No. 1 because I participated in more international competitions this year and performed well," he said.

Lee acknowledged the pressure from both himself and external expectations. He plans to discuss his training regimen with his fitness coach, aiming to reduce fat, build muscle, and improve his physical condition. He hopes these changes will enhance his focus in high-stress competitions.
