TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Director Wang I-hsin (汪怡昕) expressed his understanding and support for actor Wu Kang-ren's (吳慷仁) decision to pursue opportunities in China on Monday (Sept. 23).

Wang, known for directing the series "Island Nation" (國際橋牌社), made his comments amid growing speculation on social media about Wu's potential signing with China's Easy Entertainment (壹心娛樂).

Wang revealed that he had known about Wu's intentions to develop his career in China for several years. He also made a heartfelt appeal to Wu, urging him not to degrade Taiwan to appease the Chinese market. Wang stated that it would be a great regret if Wu pleases the Chinese market in this way.

Wu, a celebrated actor who has won both Golden Bell Awards (金鐘獎) and Golden Horse Awards (金馬獎), has not yet responded to the rumors. The news has sparked significant discussion online, with many fans and critics weighing in on the potential move.

Wu's history of political activism adds another layer to the conversation. In 2014, Wu publicly supported the Sunflower Student Movement (太陽花學運), which opposed the Cross-Strait Service Trade Agreement (CSSTA, 海峽兩岸服務貿易協議) with China. Wu participated in protests outside the Legislative Yuan (立法院) and donated to support the students.

However, in 2017, after endorsing a Chinese smartphone brand, he clarified that his opposition was to the government's handling of the agreement, not the agreement itself.
