TAIPEI (TVBS News) — China's Taiwan Affairs Office (國台辦) announced on Monday (Sept. 23) that the 22-year-old Taiwanese resident Kuo Yu-hsuan (郭宇軒) was being investigated for alleged fraud. This development follows Kuo's disappearance after he traveled to China.

Kuo, a recent graduate, traveled to China on Aug. 27. He landed in Shanghai and informed his family that he would transfer to Hefei, Anhui. However, he has been missing since then, causing his family significant distress.

Kuo's sister revealed that he was reluctant to share his travel plans. He only inquired about obtaining a travel permit to mainland China in mid-August but refused to provide further details.

Kuo also used Instagram's "vanish mode" to contact his sister. She took a screenshot, prompting Kuo to respond, "This will do me harm," before losing contact.

The family has exhausted all means to reach Kuo, but to no avail. On Sept. 15, they reported his disappearance to the police, suspecting he might have been coerced into fraud or detained by local authorities. The family expressed their fears, stating they are prepared for the worst but hope for Kuo's safe return.
