TAIPEI (TVBS News) — An official of the Minister of Education (MOE, 教育部) announced on Tuesday (Sept. 24) that the new "Ministry of Sports and Physical Education" (體育暨運動發展部) has gained bipartisan support and could be established as early as next year.

Deputy Education Minister Chang Liao Wan-chien (張廖萬堅) made this statement during an awards ceremony for athletes, emphasizing the government's commitment to developing young athletes.

He believed this new department would significantly benefit the sports community and develop mass sports in Taiwan. He hoped everyone would work together to make our country a sports powerhouse.

Taiwan's delegation delivered impressive performances at this year's Olympics and Paralympics, uniting the people of Taiwan.

To implement President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) policy, the Executive Yuan (行政院) recently formed a preparatory committee for the new ministry, inviting several athletes, including Kuo Hsing-chun (郭婞淳) and Chuang Chih-yuan (莊智淵), to serve as advisors. The final meeting was held on Monday.
