TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — Taichung City Government (台中市政府) announced Monday (Sept. 30) the preventive closure of Gaomei Wetland (高美濕地) camping area for five days due to the approaching Typhoon Krathon (中颱山陀兒). Officials will reassess the situation on Oct. 4 for an eventual reopening.

Starting at 8 a.m. Monday (Sept. 30), district offices across the city began distributing sandbags to residents in need. Typhoon Krathon, described by meteorologists as a "severe typhoon among moderate typhoons," poses significant wind and rain threats. Taichung City Government has been preparing for the typhoon for two days.

The city has five large and five temporary pumping stations. Taichung's Water Resources Bureau (水利局) confirmed readiness, with 241 mobile pumps on standby.

Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) urged residents to heed the Central Weather Administration's (CWA, 中央氣象署) warnings, noting the typhoon's path continues to shift westward, significantly impacting central Taiwan.

Taichung City Government advised that major scenic spots would close if work and classes are suspended. The Disaster Response Center remains vigilant, maintaining close communication with the CWA.
