TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Directorate-General of Personnel Administration (DGPA, 人事行政總處) announced on Monday (Sept. 30) that the Ministry of Interior (MOI, 內政部) will evaluate whether Labor Day should be a national holiday.

The DGPA will update the holiday schedule based on the ministry's assessment. The DGPA recently released the 2025 government office calendar, which does not include a nationwide holiday for Labor Day. This omission has drawn legislators' attention.

Su Chun-jung (蘇俊榮), a DGPA official, reported to the "Judiciary and Organic Laws Committee" (立法院司法及法制委員會) and faced inquiries on the matter.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) Legislator Chen Chun-yu (陳俊宇) questioned the possibility of a unified Labor Day holiday next year. Su responded that the MOI must first amend the Implementation Regulations on Memorial Days and Holidays (紀念日節日實施辦法). Afterward, DGPA will update the holiday schedule, but the decision awaits the ministry's evaluation.

Chen urged DGPA to communicate actively with the MOI, warning that inconsistent holidays could cause societal issues. Su acknowledged ongoing discussions but noted the ministry's special considerations.

Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Legislator Lo Chih-chiang (羅智強) also raised the issue of legalizing salary adjustments for military, civil, and educational personnel. Su stated that DGPA has begun gathering opinions and aims to submit a draft bill to the Legislative Yuan (立法院) by the end of the year.
