TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Core Pacific Group (威京集團) Chairman Sheen Ching-jing (沈慶京) filed an appeal through his lawyer on Tuesday (Nov. 5) against the court's decision to extend his detention in connection with a alleged bribery case linked to Core Pacific City (京華城).

Officials said the Taipei District Court received Sheen's appeal and will forward it to the Taiwan High Court. Former Taipei Deputy Mayor Pong Cheng-sheng (彭振聲), another defendant, also submitted an appeal on the same day.

The case involves allegations of bribery related to building bonuses. Significant evidence prompted the judge to extend Sheen's detention by two months from Oct. 30.

The judge cited concerns about potential collusion among defendants and the need to investigate the true purpose of political donations. The court also prohibited Sheen from meeting or communicating with others involved in the case.

The investigation continues, with all four defendants, including Taipei City Councilor Angela Ying (應曉薇) and Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), currently in custody. Reports suggest Ko may file his appeal soon, possibly within the next two days.
