Taiwan expands online passport renewals (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) announced on Tuesday (Nov. 5) that it will expand its online passport renewal pilot program to include more applicants and reduce processing time. This decision follows nearly two months of positive feedback from the public, which began on Sept. 3.

The MOFA said the new measures will allow adult citizens residing abroad with household registration in Taiwan to apply online. Also, authorities will eliminate the requirement of having no lost passport records in the past 10 years. The processing time will decrease from 14 to 10 working days, except for Penghu (澎湖), Kinmen (金門), and Matsu (媽祖) due to mailing considerations.

The foreign ministry recommends applying in person or through an authorized representative for those with less than one year of passport validity or needing changes in personal information, such as names in Chinese or foreign languages or residency endorsements.
