TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) emphasized Taiwan's crucial role in U.S. "greatness" on Thursday (Nov. 7), countering skepticism about U.S.-Taiwan relations following Donald Trump's re-election. Lin addressed concerns during a session at the Legislative Yuan, asserting that "Trump's 'Make America Great Again' slogan cannot be realized without Taiwan."

The Nov. 5 U.S. election results confirmed Trump's return to the White House, sparking doubts about the future of U.S.-Taiwan relations. Lin dismissed these concerns as unnecessary, attributing them to China's attempts to divide the two nations. The Legislative Yuan's Foreign and National Defense Committee invited Lin and the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 陸委會) on Thursday to discuss the implications of the election on U.S.-China-Taiwan relations.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) Legislator Chen Kuan-ting (陳冠廷) raised questions about the skepticism surrounding U.S.-Taiwan relations post-election. Lin reassured that the relationship is not only based on shared values but also on mutual benefits. He highlighted the deep economic integration between the U.S. and Taiwan, citing investments by international companies like TSMC as mutually advantageous.

Lin further noted Taiwan's resilience amid global supply chain restructuring, asserting that China's efforts to manipulate skepticism are misguided and bound to fail. Observers now await the potential developments in the trilateral relationship between the U.S., China, and Taiwan.
