KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung's Fire Bureau (高雄市政府消防局) announced Monday (Nov. 11) that its specialized search and rescue team is ready to deploy for international humanitarian aid in response to the earthquake in Cuba. The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 6.8 earthquake off the coast of Cuba, which caused severe shaking in Santiago de Cuba and surrounding areas.

Kaohsiung's rescue team holds the top spot for international humanitarian aid rotation in November, according to the National Fire Agency (消防署). The team comprises 60 members: two doctors, two nurses, three civil engineers, and four rescue dogs. Moreover, the team has prepared a comprehensive set of earthquake rescue equipment, including personal gear, life detectors, logistics, and medical tools, to execute their mission at any moment.

In April, the team demonstrated exceptional skills in Hualien, earning certification in May as a heavy rescue team under the UN's INSARAG standards. Fire Bureau Director Wang Chih-ping (王志平) emphasized the team's rigorous training and advanced technological equipment, stating they are capable of conducting search and rescue operations and providing medical support.

The Fire Bureau issued a press release affirming it will maintain close communication with the central government to monitor the earthquake and ensure the smooth execution of international humanitarian aid efforts.
