TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) highlighted the necessity of dialogue amid heightened cross-strait tensions on Thursday (Nov. 28) while discussing the Taipei-Shanghai Twin City Forum (雙城論壇). Mayor Chiang assured that discussions regarding the event's details are ongoing, emphasizing that communication is better than no communication and that promoting dialogue positively influences cross-strait relations.
During a city council session, members questioned Chiang about the forum, including whether Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng (龔正) would attend. Chiang reiterated the city's commitment to maintaining open communication channels, underscoring the importance of such exchanges in the current geopolitical climate.
Chiang also addressed local sports development, expressing gratitude for community support in securing a new vehicle for Dong Yuan Elementary School's (東園國小) baseball team. Known for producing talented players, the school faced challenges in fundraising due to its urban location. Chiang immediately took action upon learning of their need for transportation, ensuring the team received the necessary support.
The Department of Education released a statement affirming its commitment to grassroots baseball development. The department confirmed that a new vehicle would be purchased this year following Chiang's directive to assist the team after the previous vehicle reached its decommissioning age.
Officials emphasized that upgrading transportation enhances player safety and reflects the city's dedication to nurturing baseball talent. Looking ahead, the Department of Education plans to integrate resources to create a supportive environment for young athletes, reinforcing the city's focus on developing its baseball programs.
