TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Evergreen Marine Corporation (EMC, 長榮海運) surprised employees by distributing a year-end bonus equivalent to 20 months on Tuesday (Dec. 31). This move follows a fluctuating bonus history. The company awarded up to 52 months in 2022 for record profits while offering only 4 to 6 months in 2023 as the shipping market cooled.
In the first three quarters of 2024, EMC reported consolidated revenue of NT$347.756 billion, marking a 67.98% year-over-year increase. The company achieved an earnings per share (EPS) of NT$50.68 and a gross margin of 39%. Employees might receive an additional NT$190,000 after the shareholders' meeting next year based on these earnings.
If an employee's monthly salary is NT$60,000, this bonus translates to an extra 3.1 months, potentially reaching 4 months with fourth-quarter profits. The shipping industry has recently performed impressively. Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation (陽明海運) plans to implement a 3% salary increase starting on Jan. 1, according to reports.
