TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) on Monday (Dec. 30) led the Executive Yuan's Gender Equality Committee meeting (行政院性別平等會議), urging greater enforcement of gender pay equality regulations. Cho called on authorities to monitor high gender pay gaps in industries such as manufacturing, construction, arts, entertainment, and recreation while accelerating the expansion of corporate gender equality disclosures.
A press release from the Executive Yuan highlighted Taiwan's innovative gender equality policies this year, including comprehensive implementation of revised laws like the "Gender Equity Education Act" (性別平等教育法), "Act of Gender Equality in Employment" (性別工作平等法), and "Sexual Harassment Prevention Act" (性騷擾防治法). Cho described the highly innovative policy allowing cross-strait same-sex couples to register marriages domestically after marrying abroad.
Taiwan leads Asia in gender equality development, according to Cho. The Ministry of Labor's (MOL, 勞動部) report showed the gender hourly wage gap narrowed to 14.7% in 2023. Cho tasked the MOL and Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC, 金融監督管理委員會) with expanding corporate gender equality disclosures to guide businesses in implementing gender equality. FSC plans to require listed companies with capital over NT$10 billion to report gender pay information starting in 2028.
Cho urged the MOL to encourage and guide businesses in regularly self-assessing gender equality implementation. He emphasized encouraging women to enter STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and reducing gender barriers in career choices.
