TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Secretary-General announced on Friday (Jan. 10) that KMT Chairman Eric Chu (朱立倫) will not attend the rally organized by the Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) on Saturday. The TPP aims to protest perceived judicial injustice against its former chairman, Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), who is detained over the Core Pacific City (京華城) corruption case.

KMT Secretary-General Huang Chien-ting (黃健庭) noted that Eric Chu had never intended to participate in the rally but had already expressed support via Facebook. He stated that Chu criticized Taiwan's judiciary, saying it has become a tool for the ruling party to target the opposition. Chu encouraged those interested to voice their opinions on the streets and assured that KMT members wishing to attend would be respected.

Despite his absence due to prior commitments, Huang criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) for its alleged constitutional violations, claiming that this is not what Taiwan's democracy should look like. He accused the DPP of making the Judicial Yuan (司法院) and Control Yuan (監察院) subservient during its eight-year rule.

KMT legislative caucus leader Fu Kun-chi (傅崐萁) confirmed that several KMT members would join the TPP's rally. Acting TPP Chairman Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) revealed on Thursday night that over a dozen KMT legislators had expressed their intention to support the rally.
