TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's military, public service, and education personnel (軍公教人員) received a 1.5-month year-end bonuses on Friday (Jan. 17), offering a financial boost amid rising inflation and economic challenges. According to the "2024 Year-End Bonus Guidelines for Military, Public Service, and Education Personnel" (2024年軍公教人員年終工作獎金發給注意事項), 75% of these employees, rated as Grade A in performance, received an additional one-month bonus, totaling up to 2.5 months of pay.

The timing of performance bonuses varies due to different agency schedules, but they generally disburse before the Lunar New Year. Grade A performers receive a one-month bonus, while Grade B earn half a month, adding to their year-end bonuses for totals of 2.5 and 2 months, respectively. The recipients include current employees, those in training, temporary staff, and military trainees. However, the anticipated 3% pay raise remains pending, as the Executive Yuan (行政院) stated the budget is still under legislative review.

The year-end bonus has drawn significant attention, especially this year, due to the economic climate. While the bonus provides relief, many express disappointment over the delayed pay raise. The government faces pressure to expedite the budget approval process to implement the raise retroactively once passed.
