TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese table tennis player Lin Yun-ju (林昀儒) advanced to the round of 32 at the Singapore Smash 2025 by defeating Kazakhstan's Kirill Gerassimenko 3-0 on Monday (Feb. 3).

Lin, ranked 12th globally, showcased his prowess in his first World Table Tennis (WTT) event of the season against the 51st-ranked Gerassimenko.

Lin dominated the first game, leading 7-2 and closing it at 11-5, demonstrating his powerful forehand. In the second game, Lin quickly recovered from a 0-2 deficit, scoring four consecutive points to secure another 11-5 win. The third game was more intense, with Lin trailing 8-9 before his aggressive serves clinched an 11-9 victory.

Next, Lin will face Australia's Hwan Bae in the singles. He will also prepare for the men's doubles, teaming up with Kao Cheng-jui (高承睿) for the first time. Later in the evening, they will compete against Chile's Gustavo Gomez and Canada's Edward Ly (李元璋).

The media has hailed Lin as Taiwan's "strongest athlete in 20 years." He has represented Taiwan in multiple international competitions and, alongside his partner Cheng I-ching (鄭怡靜), won a mixed doubles bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
