TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Torrential rains triggered devastating floods in central Texas on July 5, claiming over 70 lives. Police in Kerr County (克爾郡) have discovered 16 bodies as a result of the deluge. Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) issued a press release on Monday (July 7) stating that no Taiwanese nationals have been reported dead or trapped in the disaster. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston has conveyed condolences to the Texas government.

The Associated Press reported that flash floods ravaged Camp Mystic, a Christian Girl Scouts summer camp in Kerr County. Floodwaters swept cabins from their foundations and killed 59 in the county, including 21 children, according to local police. The MOFA emphasized that Taiwan stands ready to offer assistance and will maintain communication with Texas authorities.

Taiwan’s representative office in Houston confirmed that no Taiwanese citizens were affected and will continue to monitor the situation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) added that the government is closely watching developments and willing to offer assistance if needed.
