TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's former economy minister Lin Hsin-i (林信義) departed Tuesday (Oct. 28) for the APEC CEO Summit starting Wednesday in South Korea. The summit brings together leaders from 21 economies including U.S. President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Japan's Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae. Lin aims to promote Taiwan's semiconductor and AI capabilities to international business leaders.

President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) appointed Lin as Taiwan's representative for the third time. Lin departed Taoyuan Airport at 11 a.m. Tuesday targeting semiconductor, AI, smart healthcare, and SME promotion. The representative seeks to attract international investment and strengthen Taiwan's APEC, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, standing among member economies.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) plans to attend the CEO Summit. Huang will meet Samsung Electronics (三星電子) and SK Hynix Semiconductor Inc. (SK海力士) senior executives to strengthen AI industry partnerships. Taiwan's Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫) anticipates progress in Taiwan-U.S. tariff negotiations with potential rate reductions.

Taiwan will showcase semiconductor expertise and advocate human-centered AI development to boost international influence. Hsu Chun-pin (許峻賓), director of Taiwan Institute of Economic Research's regional economic research group (台經院國際處區域經濟研究小組), highlighted APEC's flexibility during volatile geopolitical times. The forum aids consensus-building among member economies despite regional tensions.

Lin expressed his mission to convey Taiwan's unique attributes to international leaders and business representatives at the summit. The representative emphasized international cooperation importance as Taiwan seeks enhanced regional economic integration. ◼
