TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Northern Taiwan will experience relatively cooler weather as the northeast monsoon influences the region on Wednesday (Oct. 29). Meteorologist Wu Der-romg (吳德榮) noted in his column for the National Central University (NCU, 中央大學) that the lowest temperature on the main island registered at 18.5 degrees Celsius in New Taipei City's Shiding District (石碇區), marking a slight drop from Tuesday (Oct. 28).

Wu reported that while northern Taiwan experienced a slight rise in daytime temperatures, the weather remained cool. In contrast, central and southern regions faced hot days with cooler mornings and evenings. The north coast and Yilan saw scattered rain, with occasional short showers in Greater Taipei's east side and Hualien.

Wu added that the northeast monsoon would weaken on Thursday (Oct. 30), leading to a temperature rise. However, the north coast and Yilan may still experience scattered showers. Wu warned that another northeast monsoon surge would arrive on Friday (Oct. 31), increasing the chance of brief rain in the north and east, although the cold air remains mild, with temperatures dropping to around 19 degrees Celsius.

From Saturday (Nov. 1) to Nov. 3, the north coast, Yilan, and Hualien could expect occasional short showers, while other areas would enjoy mostly cloudy to sunny skies. The northeast monsoon would weaken again on Nov. 4, bringing milder weather and higher temperatures. However, Wu advised the public to stay alert as another wave of the northeast monsoon is set to move south on Nov. 5.
