TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., (Foxconn, 鴻海) announced a groundbreaking collaboration on Wednesday (Oct. 29) with NVIDIA (輝達), Stellantis, and Uber to develop and deploy Level 4 autonomous vehicles, known as Robotaxis. As the world's largest electronics manufacturer and solutions provider, Foxconn plans to leverage its expertise in high-performance computing, sensor integration, and electronic control systems to drive this initiative forward.
The partnership will center around the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Hyperion 10 architecture, creating a vehicle platform capable of supporting Level 4 autonomy. NVIDIA will supply its advanced AI computing systems, based on the DRIVE AGX Thor and DRIVE AV software stack, to enhance the self-driving technology. Stellantis will handle vehicle design, engineering, and manufacturing, while Foxconn will focus on hardware and system integration. Uber will operate the autonomous fleet.
Foxconn Chairman Young Liu (劉揚偉) emphasized the strategic importance of autonomous mobility in the company's electric vehicle development, stating it will expedite the implementation of Level 4 technology. Meanwhile, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) noted that Level 4 self-driving technology represents a leap in AI capabilities, turning vehicles into true robots. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa highlighted that autonomous technology will offer more economical, intelligent, and efficient travel options.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi remarked that NVIDIA is the central nervous system of the AI era, channeling its innovative power into Level 4 autonomous applications. Level 4 autonomous vehicles would feature the integration of high-performance computing, intelligent power management, stable connectivity, and thermal control systems, alongside various sensors, including LiDAR, to enhance the vehicle's sensitivity to safety for the surrounding environment.
