TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Southeasterly winds prevailed near Taiwan on Tuesday (Feb. 24), bringing warm and slightly hot conditions during the day, with maximum temperatures around 30°C. Cooler morning and evening will occur due to radiative cooling, and fog is likely to form in western areas early in the morning, as well as in Kinmen and Matsu. Meteorologists urged people to be mindful of its potential impact on traffic.
Taiwan will experience increased rainfall and cooler temperatures from Wednesday (Feb. 25) as the first wave of the northeast monsoon impacts the region, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署). The weather pattern will primarily affect the northern and eastern parts of the island, bringing a noticeable drop in high temperatures.
The northeast monsoon will briefly weaken on Thursday (Feb. 26), leading to scattered showers north of Taoyuan, with other areas remaining mostly cloudy. Friday (Feb. 27) will see a second cold front moving south, strengthening the monsoon again. The cloud and rain belt from South China will shift eastward, resulting in brief showers across the central, northern, and eastern regions, as well as the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島).
The rain will expand from Saturday (Feb. 28) to Sunday (March 1), with cooler conditions in the central and northern areas and isolated showers in the southern mountain regions. Although the cold air will slightly weaken on Sunday (March 1), the cloud and rain system from South China will continue to affect the central, northern, and eastern regions, as well as the Hengchun Peninsula, with localized, brief rain.
The Administration has also issued warnings for Thursday and Friday regarding potential long waves along the northern coast of Keelung and the eastern coast. Residents should remain vigilant about coastal safety during this period.
