TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Heavy rain and low visibility on Tuesday (Feb. 24) forced Kinmen Airport (金門機場) to cancel seven flights to and from Taiwan's main island. Nearly 500 travelers were stranded at the airport due to severe weather.
Rain persisted in the Kinmen area until the afternoon, easing only by 3 p.m. However, fog and a low cloud ceiling soon followed, severely affecting flight operations. The cancellations included four flights to Taipei, two to Taichung, and one to Kaohsiung, leaving many travelers stranded.
Screens inside the airport displayed mostly canceled or delayed flights, leaving passengers frustrated. One traveler remarked that they might not find a seat the following day, as children need to attend school and adults need to get back to work.
Ground staff reported only three seats available, forcing passengers to crowd around the counter in hopes of securing a standby seat. Some travelers urged airlines to add extra flights to help those stranded return to Taiwan smoothly.
