TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (外交部) heightened the travel alert for Israel to "red" on Saturday (Feb. 28), advising immediate departure due to recent airstrikes by the United States and Israel on Iran. Officials announced the change while maintaining the red alert for Iran, emphasizing the need for increased vigilance among Taiwanese nationals.
The ministry directed the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Tel Aviv (台灣駐以色列代表處) and other relevant Middle Eastern offices to closely monitor the evolving situation. They initiated an emergency response mechanism to remind Taiwanese citizens to stay in contact, remain alert, and follow local government safety guidelines. Current reports indicate that approximately 264 Taiwanese nationals reside in Israel, with four in Iran, all of whom are safe.
Officials urge Taiwanese citizens to avoid traveling to high-risk countries like Israel and Iran. Those already in these regions should remain vigilant and maintain close contact with Taiwan's overseas offices. This will enable the government to promptly assess situations and provide necessary assistance.
In cases of emergencies, Taiwanese nationals in Israel can contact the representative office at +972-544-275-204, while those in Iran should contact the Dubai office at +971-50-645-3018. Additionally, the ministry offers an "emergency service hotline" at +886-800-085-095 for immediate assistance in conflict zones. As tensions persist, the ministry will review and adjust its measures in line with the latest developments to ensure the safety of its citizens abroad.
