TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The 2026 World Baseball Classic commenced Thursday (March 5), but the Chinese Taipei team faced a setback before their first match against Australia. Lee Hao-yu (李灝宇), a player from the Detroit Tigers (底特律老虎隊), withdrew due to injury, leaving fans in shock.

The Detroit Tigers decided to withdraw Lee as a precautionary measure. Chang Cheng-yu (張政禹) will replace him in the lineup. In the game against Australia, Lin Tzu-wei (林子偉) will play second base, while Chiang Kun-yu (江坤宇) will take on shortstop duties.

The Tigers also imposed restrictions on their star left-handed pitcher, Tarik Skubal (史庫柏), allowing him to pitch only during the group stage against Great Britain. Skubal expressed his understanding of the team's decision and said he hopes to support his teammates as a spectator if the U.S. team reaches the finals.

As the tournament progresses, fans will eagerly await how these changes impact Team Taiwan's performance. The team's resilience and adaptability will be crucial as they navigate the challenges ahead.
