TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Tatung University (大同大學) announced on Thursday (March 5) a new international exchange subsidy program to boost global learning opportunities for students. Starting in September, eligible students applying for overseas studies, exchanges, or international programs can receive up to NT$200,000 (approximately US$6308.75) per semester.

University alumni funded this initiative, which will complement the Ministry of Education (教育部) Overseas Exchange Student Financial Assistance Grant. The university stated that if students qualify for the MOE's NT$60,000 (approximately US$1892.63) grant, they will receive a matching amount from the university, effectively doubling their financial support.

The university plans to offer varying scholarships based on the destination region. Students heading to Asia can receive between NT$80,000 (approximately US$2523.50) and NT$120,000 (approximately US$3785.25) per semester, while those traveling to Europe or the Americas may qualify for between NT$160,000 (approximately US$5047.00) and NT$200,000 (approximately US$6308.75).

He Ming-kuo (何明果), the university president, emphasized the cultural and educational benefits of studying abroad, stating that "students gain more than just professional knowledge through international experiences". He believes financial constraints should not hinder students from pursuing such opportunities.

He also highlighted the importance of international perspectives for graduates, noting that "the future globalized society will offer numerous opportunities for international industry and technology exchanges." Early exposure to diverse cultures can enhance workplace competitiveness, he added. (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$31.70)
